I’m recognizing Pride month this year by kicking off a new project that will be ongoing. I’ve always been drawn to the traditional coat of arms and heraldry – but as I grew more into my queer identity, I felt as though these traditional symbols were ‘off limits’ to me. I decided that it was time to reclaim them, in my own way and for my community.
The “Chosen Family” Project is starting off small and simple: A few traditional heraldry symbols and creatures presented with our Pride colors (including the awesome brown and black colors as added this year by Philadelphia) – but it won’t stay that way. I’ll be actively gathering and drawing more symbols and creatures as the project continues (if you have ideas, feel free to submit them from my contact page).
